I just need a little advice

Ok moms.  Annerson is about to start solids.  She turns 5 months on Sunday.  I need help deciding what type of rice cereal to start her on & all that fun stuff.

What type of cereal should we use?
What amount?  1 tablespoon 2x a day?
What times?
What changes should I expect as I continue to BF?
Can I use any formula to mix with it?

I'm just wondering all the ins and outs.  I know a lot of moms read this blog so I'm hoping to gain trusted insight through you!

We are probably going to start on Tuesday so if you can make me a solid food expert by then that would be great!

A pastor's thoughts

I am writing these thoughts on the evening after the inauguration of Barack Obama, the first African-American President of the United States. I cried twice today. There were two points when I was overwhelmed by the magnitude of it all. Once was when I prayed with some brothers after Obama’s speech and was overcome with the sinfulness of my own racist background. The other was in trying to express my emotion to an African-American brother about what this must mean for him.

As much as I reject Obama’s stance on abortion, I am thankful to the bottom of my soul that an African-American can be President of United States. The enormousness of it all is unspeakable. This is God’s doing. The geese were God’s doing. The landing of Flight 1549 was God’s doing. And the Obama presidency is God’s doing. “He removes kings and sets up kings” (Daniel 2:21).

And I pray that President Obama has eyes to see. The “miracle on the Hudson” and the “miracle in the White House” are not unrelated. God has been merciful to us as a nation. Our racial sins deserved judgment a thousand times over. God does not owe America anything. We owe him everything. And instead of destruction, he has given us another soft landing. We are not dead at the bottom of the Hudson.

O that Barack Obama would see the mercies of God and look to the One whose blood bought everlasting life for all who trust him. The parables of God’s mercy are everywhere. The point of them is this: God is a just and patient Ruler, and Jesus Christ is a great Savior. Turn. Turn. Turn, O President of the United States and passengers of this planet.

Full of thanks for all God’s mercies,

Pastor John

Christmas is all about family

I'm way over due on this Christmas post.  I  had a really hard time getting these pictures to load for some reason.  In the process, however, I did discover that you can download more than one picture at a time...didn't know that trick.  The pictures wouldn't download if I did them one at a time but would if I did them in sets.  Just a side note for you fellow bloggers.  Always learning!

All that to say that we had a wonderful first Christmas with Annerson.  We flew to Missouri on Christmas day.  Annerson did so good on the plane and in the car.  She slept mostly.

The best part about this Christmas was that my family in Missouri got to meet Annerson.  My sister-in-law Steffany came when Anners was born, but no one else had met her on my side of the family.

Flying to St. Louis Christmas morning

Meeting the pilot-I think they were both nervous

She loved our stewardesses...and they loved her!

She slept most of the flight.  We left the house that morning at 6:15!

Still catching up on sleep

Why wake up now?  We've got a 3 hours drive ahead of us.

We got to Poplar Bluff (where I lived until I was 10 & my grandfather & mother now live) right in time for Christmas dinner at Uncle Jerry & Aunt Sarah's.   I don't know why I didn't get a picture of them with Annerson.  Here are the pictures of everyone else  Annerson got to meet.

My mom told me that getting to meet Annerson was her motivation when rehab got hard.  She'd tell herself, "one more day closer to meeting Annerson Grace."

weird look on my face probably due to the fact that this kid
is super small and he's holding me

Even after 5 days, we weren't ready to leave.  We wish we could have stayed longer.  I'm ready to go back so Anners can spend more time getting to know her family.  We set out for St. Louis at 4:15 in the morning.  Again, she was great on the flights & in the car.  Well...she cried the first 45 minutes, but then she fell asleep :)  Thank you Uncle Kelley & Aunt Phyllis for taking us to the airport in St. Louis.  We miss you guys a ton.  Hello Michael James!!!  Annerson wishes you would come hold her & play with her!

Dancing with the Angels

Mrs. Robin West died tonight after a very long battle with cancer.  I can't say that cancer won, only that God did.  He always wins.  Life or death.

Mrs. West is 4th from the left in the green pants

Please remember her husband Rick & her two young children Alex & Adam in your prayers.

Lex & I feel so blessed to have gotten to see her a few hours before she took her last breath.

"My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to accomplish His work." John 4:34

Dancing with the Angels by Monk & Neagle

You're dancing with the angels
Walking in new life
You're dancing with the angels
Heaven fills your eyes
Now that you're dancing with the angels

You had love for your family
Love for all people
Love for the Father, and Son
Your heart will be heard
In your unspoken words
Through generations to come
There is so much that I don't understand
But I know

We're only here for such a short time
So I'm gonna stand up
Shout out
And sing Hallelujah
One day I'll see you again

Special Guests

On Wednesday Annerson had 2 special guests come over.  Zachary & Calyn Dallas spent the afternoon with us.  These kids are a blast to be around.  They are at that stage where everything is a "Why question".  I never had to think so hard as to why things did, are, were, & how!

First we ate lunch.  Pizza, corn (old school cafeteria baby), salad, chips & salsa.  Zach and I stuck together and opted out of the salad.

We also had red Gatorade

Lunch was followed up with story time in Annerson's room with random spurts of their attempts at photography.

2nd attempt-doesn't Annerson look so pretty?

1st attempt to take pic of me & Anner

Then we turned on their favorite music
(Pearl Merchant Band)
and the dancing began

And that quickly turned into a tickle wrestling match...of course.  Lex is the king of wrestling.  My nieces and nephews in Missouri call him the bull.

Annerson and I played it safe on the couch.  Hey, someone had to take the pics ok.

Next we played a game. You should have seen the look on their faces when Lex whipped out those instructions and started reading them.  Let's just say that they wanted to make up their own rules and definitely did so as we played!
P.S. Nice legs whitey mcwhiterson

We watched Madagascar and then fell asleep for a nice nap. This picture is staged, but we really did take a nap!

Thank you for coming to spend the day with us Zach & Calyn!  We hope you come back really soon!

I apologize for the chaotic formatting of this post.  I can't figure it out.  Oh well.
